André Montsion was born in Québec's Outaouais of French Canadian parents. Music and dance have always been part of his life. Hull (now called Gatineau) was founded around 1800 and saw people of different areas, including his grandparents, moving in to find work. The mix of English, French, Irish, and Scottish made for some interesting differences in the way the people of the area dance.
André did some folk dancing he was ten years old. He stopped then started again at age fifteen and hasn't stopped since.
From fun to serious work, he took jazz, ballet, and character dance in order to perform stage-style folklore. He learned dances in Greece, Hungary, and Romania. Research and travel has completed his understanding of the relationship between dance, culture, history, society, and the spirituality of many people and his university studies complement his folk dance activities.
André is a teacher at the elementary, secondary, and college levels, and is a specialist at a university.He is manager of a retail store and a multinational owner of retail stores, is the owner of a computer training center, and is a professor and specialist in folk dance. He also has a part in a non-profit national organization for youth and is a member of the International Dance Council of UNESCO.

He was the artistic director and workshop teacher for ArLeDs, a dancer with Ami Hai Israeli Dance Company of Ottawa, a dancer with Orpheus operatic Society of Ottawa, a dancer with the International Dance Ensemble of Ottawa, a dancer with the International Folk Dance Ensemble of New York under the direction of Lori Shapiro, a dancer with the Ottawa Board of Education, a teacher with the Gatineau Board of Education, a teacher with the Hungarian community of Ottawa, a choreographer with the Nepean Center Point Choir, a choreographer with Montreal Popular Arts, a workshop teacher with Popular Arts, a workshop teacher with the University of Toronto Folk Dancers, a teacher with Kineskamie under the direction of Baie Comeau, a teacher at Camp Hess Kramer in Malibu, California, a workshop teacher with Narodni International Folk Dancers of Bellflower, California, a workshop teacher with the UNESCO World Dance Conference, and a workshop teacher with the Ethnic Express International Folkdancing Club of Lasa Vegas, Nevada, to name a few.
André leads World Cultures tours of Montréal and is the author of several books on prayer.
