Vera Holleuffer

Vera M. Holleuffer was born on December 5, 1909, the youngest of six children of Swedish immigrants, Fanny and Albert Helgesson. She attended Cogswell Technical High School and graduated from UC Berkeley in 1932 with a degree in physical education.
She was an excellent square dance caller and taught the first years at the College of the Pacific Folk Dance Camp (now Stockton Folk Dance Camp) from 1948 to 1956.
Throughout her life she was an enthusiastic educator. She taught at Los Lomitas Elementary School in Menlo Park from the late 50s through the 70s and was the founder of several folk and square dance groups including Gateswingers in S.F., Live Wires in Redwood City, and Los Quadros in Menlo Park.
One of her most rewarding experiences began at age 85 when she taught folk dancing for three years to kindergarteners at Los Lomitas Elementary School in Menlo Park.
She and her husband Charles "Holly" passed on their love of life and learning to their children Keith, Lynne and Carol, and to the many foreign exchange students who shared their home over the years.
Vera died December 12, 2001, after suffering a stroke.
