Dr. David Green started serious folk dancing in Vancouver, Canada in 1973, when he joined the semi-professional performance group Or Chadash Folk Dance Troupe (which needed men!). His background had also included modern dance. The troup's repertoire was international, especially Israeli and Hungarian. David also began teaching at this time.
He moved to Ontario in 1976 to study herpetology at the University of Guelph, where he started an international recreational group from scratch, and taught a social dance class. He is a professor at McGill University.
In 1979, he was approached by the young amateur group Hungarian Kossuth Dancers, which needed a teacher and had heard of him through the University. He has taught and choreographed for this group, which has taken part in such festivals as Pontozo, held annualy in Toronto.
His knowledge of Hungarian dance has come primarily from Andor Czompo and other workshop teachers, such as Kálmán and Judith Magyar.
David has given international workshops in such cities as Victoria, Vancouver, London, Toronto, and Montreal.
