Examine if you will the face page of this program from the First North-South Statewide Folk Dance Festival, held on the Main Street of Ojai, May 11, 1946, between the hours of 8:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. As one of the estimated 300 to 500 participants, I treasure the memory of this and subsequent Statewide gatherings with only one small regret, or, from an optimistic viewpoint, with pride in the realization I was fortunate to actually particicpate in all but one and look forward to attending the 42nd in Pasadena, May 23, 24, and 25, 1987.
Housing could have been a problem, there practically being none avilable in Ojai. Folks opened up their homes for us and it worked out fine. It was a good start and I am happy to say I have missed but one Statewide since that time. I was in England during the recent Festival in Concord, which spoils my perfect record, but then, who's perfect anyway?
